Google Drive, The New Google Docs

Via MyDigitalLife: Google Drive, The New Google Docs

The rumors about Google Drive are true.

Google Drive gives users free cloud storage to create documents and store media and then share and collaborate with others.

Here are some features that you can look forward to:

5 GB Free Storage

That's a lot of storage for your personal media and more than enough for simple documents so I will use it just because I have a Google account.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

Drive can recognize text in scanned documents using OCR or Optical Character Recognition technology. Whether its an old newspaper clipping, you will be able to search for a word from the text of the scanned article.

Image Recognition Technology

Image recognition is in its early stage so as people begin to use the technology, it will get better and eventually it will be able to recognize images and faces.

Create and collaborate. Google Docs is built right into Google Drive, so you can work with others in real time on documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Once you choose to share content with others, you can add and reply to comments on anything (PDF, image, video file, etc.) and receive notifications when other people comment on shared items.

Accessibility Anywhere

You can install Drive on your Mac or PC and can download the Drive app to your Android phone or tablet therefore Google Drive can come in handy at places like at work where you access your documents and on vacations where you'd want to upload your personal media. Google is also working tediously on a Drive app for iOS devices. Blind users also get access to Google Drive by using a screen reader.

Take a look at the Google's video to get a perspective on Google Drive.

Google Drive. Keep everything. Share anything.
